All too often, people serving as personal protection (being the life altering career that it is) tend to overlook their own well being. When you are working in a security capacity, looking after other people or services may be your first priority. However, this shouldn’t mean you become the slightest bit careless about your own health and well-being. After all, in order to guard others both your body and mind should be in a position to react or respond when an event that may harm the person/property you are looking after takes place (or even later on).

There is no denying the fact that staying alert 24/7 can be a tad exhausting and daunting. Consequently, the vigorous routine will most probably have you on the ropes - but that’s not acceptable. You ought to get up and back in the game, day after day, night after night. Sure, the job requires a tremendous amount of effort, but it is, nonetheless, all worth it in the end.

Aside from the rather reactive approach to threats, security personnel are also required to adopt another approach - a preventive one. Simply put, this implies that security guards should intercept the occurrence of such unpleasant, malicious and dangerous events. They are to watch out for impending danger, and immediately report any suspicious activity they may come up against.

In order for a security guard to perform his duties wholeheartedly and duly, it is essential that he remains in the best of health; physically, mentally and even spiritually perhaps. The significance of the guard’s health in providing optimum security services cannot be stressed enough. Therefore, it is safe to say that the best security guards are those who are physically fit (inside and out), nimble and strong and smart enough to defend themselves and their client should the situation require it of them.

In fact, all the characteristics attributed to an ideal security guard are more or less largely determined by the guard’s health and fitness - vigilance, responsiveness, adaptability, high level of energy, physical and mental pro activeness, and other similar characteristics, all follow good health.

And so, to all security personnel - eat well, sleep well (whenever you do get the time/chance), drink lots of water, avoid drinking too much, and spend as much of your time in the gym (or simply running) as you can. Most importantly, staying happy is very essential to living a healthy life. Remember, all lives are important; while yours is particularly important for obvious reasons.
