One of the most difficult tasks we continue to face is finding the right personnel to represent our brand. After all, it is their performance that determines the success of an event.

As a company, when we start hitting a wall in finding personnel in the security industry, we change the pace a bit and start hitting the streets trying to recruit individual's outside the realms of security. We begin to actively look for transferrable skills or those that already possesses a certain skill set or level of training that is reflected in our training philosophies.

We have been extremely successful with this method as once a recruit buys into our vision and obtains their security licence, it allows us to completely train and develop them in the way we want to see our security services performed.

This week we will be highlighting Stephanie.

Stephanie has been with Sentinel Security for just over a year now. In her short time with us, she has demonstrated a willingness to learn and have a strong grasp in how we deliver our services to our clientele. With a goal to ensure a successful event , Stephanie brings many suggestions to our team by working the front line. Her extensive experience in the event industry allows her to bring different perspectives that go hand-in hand in the security industry.

Stephanie graduated with a diploma in Business Marketing and focused primarily on international business relations and events. Stephanie was heavily involved with campus life and developed many of the events, and programming for the students of Durham College.

After graduation, Stephanie maintained her relationship with the college and went back several times to assist with the execution of concerts, music festivals and large scale campus events before moving into a large corporate marketing firm downtown.

Stephanie was involved in the advertisement and brand development of spirits in America before really taking an interest in moving forward on the event side. Stephanie states "I really wanted to work with my community and made the move into non profit events early into my career".

With this new transition and keen interest in the event world, Stephanie continued to explore different areas of the business and ended up at a very prominent women's shelter in Toronto as a community Outreach Officer. Stephanie's was responsible for the fundraising, event development and community outreach for the shelter.

Throughout the years Stephanie gained immense knowledge and experience in working with all types of people. Her role allowed her to go out into the community and speak about the cycle of violence against women and children and gain the backing of large corporate sponsors.

Stephanie orchestrated a women's writing workshop and through this found out that she shared many of their experiences in her work and helped the community to understand the issues facing our communities. With this, Stephanie was part of the development of a youth program at the shelter with a purpose to give young people jobs and experiences to express themselves through the arts. Stephanie found a great starting point and created partnered relationships with Caribana.

Using one of North America's most recognized major event as starting point, Stephanie assisted in both the design and development of costumes to be shared in competitions for Caribana. This was greatly received and enjoyed by the patrons of the parade while raising awareness for the shelter at the same time.

After Stephanie's first son was born, she took some time off to develop additional skills and schooling in event management and decided to really focus on building her own company; Stephanie Lyn Events.

While trying to grow her company over the years, Stephanie was approached by Sentinel Management to come on board as the company saw great value in her transferable skill sets. Sentinel invested into Stephanie into getting her licenced and trained. Shortly after, Stephanie started working with Sentinel in an effort to understand all aspects of an event. Stephanie states "This allowed me to be more aware of all the moving parts. Where do we need to be, How could this work better for us and the client? What elements are we missing and how can we bring a plan B into effect quickly and efficiently?

On her time off Stephanie loves to travel and explore the world. Stephanie is also a huge crafter which allows her to create props for plays and costumes and theatrical sets. Hockey and soccer are loved sports in her family which keep her pretty busy, but above all, spending time with her family is what she most looks forward to.

Over the years working with so many different venues, and clients and her new additional transition into security, has allowed Stephanie to really hone in on how to be the most effective in her position as a security professional. Stephanie states "I use the same values in security as what I use in my business and strive to bring a positive, professional and unique experience to each and every client we work with. I really enjoy the interactions that I have with the people that partake in the events and I always hope that it comes through in the way we speak to and interact with them ".
