It all started on a cold snowy winters day in December 2005. We had just moved into our new home. After settling in and transporting boxes from storage, I attempted to make one last trip bringing back a few more key items. I got into my car and as I slowly pulled off I quickly submerged into the snow not being able to move at all. I was stuck. Not even 30 seconds passed and like a knight riding fiercely into battle to save a damsel in distress a figure emerged from winter’s icy grip. This was no ordinary man. This was Shane Wint.
This was the start of a new friendship. Shane was my direct neighbour, and his kind gesture of helping me out was just one of the many great qualities that drove me to recruiting Shane with Sentinel Security.
Today Shane is one of Sentinel’ senior district managers and looks after many of our client sites including Fring’s, ARD Events, One King West and Renaissance Hotel to name a few.
Shane is also one of Sentinel Plus’s most senior veterans having worked with Sentinel since inception. Shane’s strong background in customer service has made him a huge favourite amongst our clients and his colleagues. With a smile on his face and a positive contagious attitude, Shane continues to help develop the Sentinel brand.

Shane Wint started his first job at the age of 12 years old working in Scarborough at Silver Springs apartment building. He was responsible for cleaning and the restoration of the rooms as tenants left. This would include refinishing floors, bathrooms, repairing holes in walls and just about anything you can think of. Until today Shane recalls this was the most difficult job he had ever worked.
A few years joined Cineplex Odeon at Fairview Mall as a stock boy and quickly worked his way up to management by the time he was 18. During this journey he also worked at Henry Birks, YMCA, Timberbank Public School, Gentleman's Court, Intercon Security and volunteered as a Track & Field Coach for his High School.
Always having to work three jobs at once was a necessity seeing that at the age of 16 he also moved out of his parents house and started to experience life as a young man while sill somehow finding the time to finish high school and graduating with a 92% average. Having great grades was just one piece of the pie. Shane was very athletic and hold’s records in 100m sprint 200m sprint, javelin and discus.
After finishing high school, Shane continued working 3 part time jobs for years until his big break came. Shane was offered a position at Sony Of Canada. He was able to finally quit all his part time jobs and focus on just one. Shane made a difficult decision to put his dreams aside of being a police officer shortly after being employed by Sony where incredible pay was a motivational factor.
Within his first year he was promoted to Assistant Manager and by the second year Sales Manager. Shane went on to winning numerous MVP's awards and nominated Manager of the year multiple times and working and managing various stores in the GTA.
Within Sony is where the passion and love for photography developed. Although he had an ear and knowledge for audio, photography kept pulling him back. Shane's ear for audio was appreciated so much, the President of Sony occasionally invited him to listen and select the brand of speakers the country should carry in their stores.
A few years later, seeking new challenges, Shane joined a new start up company called Moblicity. To this day Mobilicity continues to be great to him, teaching him things he would not have learned at Sony and would have to complete several degrees in colleges and university's to learn. Being at Mobilicity (now acquired by Rogers) gives Shane a taste of what the good life is like.
Enjoying fancy restaurants, expensive cigars, vintage wines, aged cognac, and hot tubs, are just some of the things he enjoys on his days off. But more than any material thing, Shane loves to spend time with his daughter and wife whom he met while working at Sony.

Working long hours, between Moblicity and Sentinel and taking care of a young family is no daunting task, but Shane manages to pull it off year after year. Just another example in the work ethic demonstrated by our Humans of Sentinel.
Stay tuned next week as showcase yet another member of the Sentinel Family.
